Somali Community March From The Dàil during Human Rights and Anti-Deportation Protests, 2006.

09.03.06 – These images show a protest led by Somali Asylum Seekers in opposition to deportations ordered by the Department of Justice and Minister of Justice Micheal McDowell. The protest was conducted outside of Daìl Èireann, Dublin. Members of the Somali community gathered in order to oppose deportations to Somalia due to political instability at the time – Somalia had been without a central government from 1990 to 2006. Additionally, human rights abuses were widespread throughout the country including the subjugation of women and girl children to Female Genital Mutilation.
